When we practice yoga, we aim to unite mind, body and breath. The practice of yoga promotes physical health, mental calm and emotional well-being. Yoga improves posture and increases flexibility and stamina. It also improves the function of the respiratory, circulatory, digestive and hormonal systems. Yoga helps to relieve and reduce stress, and promotes deep relaxation. Regular practice of yoga helps us to access our inner calm and self-confidence, and to live more fully in the present.
I have been practising Iyengar Yoga for over 35 years. At first, I simply attended one class a week, and enjoyed learning the postures and appreciated the general sense of well-being I felt after a class. Gradually, yoga assumed a greater importance for me, as I experienced the benefits of regular practice in all aspects of my life. Eventually, I decided that I would like to teach, and I began a two-year teacher training course in 2003. I qualified as an Introductory Iyengar Yoga teacher in 2005. I have since continued my training, and now hold the Level 3 (formerly Intermediate Junior Level 3) certificate.
I find teaching immensely rewarding and enjoyable. In my classes, I aim to provide a supportive and friendly environment. Students are encouraged to work according to their own ability, in order to realise their full potential and to experience the many benefits of yoga.
